Al-bayda: A meeting held today in Al-Bayda Governorate, chaired by Governor Abdullah Idris, discussed the activities of the Economy, Industry, and Investment Office, along with the outcomes of the Ramadan market inspection campaigns carried out by the office.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting reviewed a report by the Director of the Economy Office, Ahmed Al-Taheri, on the progress of the Ramadan campaigns during the holy month, as part of efforts to regulate prices and protect consumers from manipulation. He noted that 1,173 shops and commercial centers were targeted, with results showing that 920 were compliant with supply regulations, while 253 violations were recorded.
Al-Taheri explained that the violations included 94 cases of failure to display prices, 33 cases of price hikes, 71 instances of spoiled or expired goods, 27 cases of selling without invoices, eight violations related to underweight bread, four cases involving shortages in packaging and weights, two cases of non-compliance with specifications, four cases of refusal to allow inspection, and ten additional violations related to non-compliance with health requirements and precautionary measures.
During the meeting, Governor Idris praised the efforts of the Economy Office in maintaining supply stability, ensuring the availability of essential food commodities, and regulating prices. He stressed the importance of maintaining price and supply stability and protecting consumers from exploitation and fraud, especially during periods of increased consumption.
The governor also called for enhanced coordination with local authorities and relevant bodies to expand market oversight, protect consumers, develop resources, encourage investment projects and local production, and intensify field inspections to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
