Taiz: A meeting chaired by Taiz Deputy Governor for Development Affairs, Abdul-Wasi' Al-Shamsi, discussed ways to increase and improve the production of local almonds by working through value chains via the Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative in the district.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was attended by Al-Salou Cooperative President Fouad Al-Hadabi and Executive Director Abdul-Wali Al-Salawi. The discussion highlighted Al-Shamsi's emphasis on the importance of expanding almond cultivation and enhancing its productivity, thereby contributing to better income sources for farmers.
Al-Shamsi urged the cooperative leadership to start organizing farmers into specialized production groups. This initiative aims to facilitate outreach to each farmer, assess obstacles and needs, and prepare the necessary studies to provide support through the Economic Empowerment Program, known as 'White Loans'.
Meanwhile, the province's agricultural sector official, Engineer Abdullah Al-Jundi, and Al-Salou District Director Adel Sha'lan, explored the potential for expanding this cash crop using modern methods. These methods are intended to reduce costs and increase productivity.
They also noted the growing almond production in the district, with large quantities being marketed through the cooperative. The cooperative was praised for its role, efficiency, and the capability of its staff in managing and organizing such agricultural activities.
