Sana'a: A meeting held on Tuesday at the Faculty of Medicine at Sana'a University, chaired by the University President, Dr. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, discussed the steps taken to enhance the academic development path and improve the quality of medical education in line with international standards.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting, which included the Assistant President for Hospitals and Medical Colleges, Dr. Abdulhafidh Thawabeh, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Mohammed Al-Shahari, vice deans, members of the steering committee, and heads of departments, addressed the level of progress in infrastructure development plans, performance indicators, and mechanisms for formulating modern research policies aimed at regulating academic and medical work, enhancing scientific output, and linking it to community needs.
The meeting also reviewed the strategic plan and self-study report as key tools for measuring institutional progress, in addition to following up on developments in the international academic accreditation file in accordance with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
During the meeting, the University President affirmed that the progress witnessed by the Faculty of Medicine is the result of cumulative efforts based on a clear vision aimed at achieving a qualitative transformation in the medical education environment. He noted that the university has prioritized investment in infrastructure and scientific equipment in line with rapid developments in the medical field.
He pointed out that the previous phase saw the implementation of several modernization, rehabilitation, and development projects within the framework of institutional, programmatic, academic transformation toward a smart and integrated educational environment, in accordance with modern medical education standards, and the systematic utilization of these developments to improve the quality of educational outcomes.
Dr. Al-Bukhaiti emphasized that the next phase will witness the completion of all development projects and a move toward broader horizons of academic and institutional excellence.
For his part, the Assistant President for Hospitals and Medical Colleges stressed that efforts are focused on achieving tangible improvements in daily performance within departments by continuously providing medical and technical needs, organizing workflow administratively according to clear mechanisms, enhancing operational efficiency, improving coordination among medical, technical, and administrative staff, and developing systems for supervision, follow-up, and periodic performance evaluation.
In turn, the Dean of the Faculty praised the pivotal role played by heads of scientific departments and faculty members in strengthening teamwork and institutional integration within the college. He explained that academic departments remain the backbone of the educational process, having effectively contributed to developing the educational process, updating curricula, and enhancing research activities.
He affirmed that the current phase represents a turning point, with ongoing efforts to comprehensively rebuild the medical education system in line with international accreditation requirements, thereby strengthening the faculty's position at both regional and international levels.
Meanwhile, national expert Dr. Saleh Bahaj highlighted that the academic accreditation path according to WFME standards is one of the most important indicators of the maturity of medical education institutions, noting that the commitment of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to these standards reflects a serious direction toward achieving comprehensive and sustainable quality.
