Moscow: The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the special representative of the Russian President for economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, has issued a stark warning to Europe. Dmitriev declared that European countries have delayed diversifying their energy sources, a move he believes could lead to the destruction of the European Union and the United Kingdom.
According to Yemen News Agency, Dmitriev took to the X platform to express his concerns, stating, "European warmongers are ten years late in diversifying energy sources, and a full month late in recognizing the biggest energy crisis ever." He further challenged European leaders, asking, "Why do they relentlessly continue moving in the wrong direction that leads to the destruction of the European Union and the United Kingdom? Let them atone for their sin!"
Dmitriev has previously warned about the consequences of the European Union's decision to distance itself from Russian energy sources. He believes that this approach could push the continent into a challenging economic period.
These statements have emerged amid increasing tensions in the Middle East, which have affected navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. This strait is a critical corridor for global oil and gas supplies, and disruptions there have led to rising energy prices in international markets.
