Sana'a: Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh Bin Habtoor, a member of the Supreme Political Council, affirmed on Monday that the convening of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi and the issuance of the "New Delhi Declaration 2026"-marking the group's 20th anniversary-constitute a historic and pivotal event. This event marks a significant step toward dismantling the unipolar hegemony and centrality of the Western capitalist system, which has burdened all of humanity for centuries.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Supreme Political Council member explained that current conflicts and transformations have demonstrated that the philosophy of "unipolarity"-rooted in Western colonialism, American arrogance, financial dominance, the imposition of unilateral coercive measures, and the monopolization of international decision-making-is unsustainable and destined to collapse.
He regarded the rise of Global South nations-alongside demands to reform international financial, administrative, institutional, and political structures (ranging from the UN Security Council to the Bretton Woods institutions and the World Trade Organization)-as a victory for the concept of "multipolarity," as well as for justice and sovereign equality among all nations and peoples. Dr. Bin Habtoor stated that the capital, Sana'a-standing on the front lines in defense of its sovereignty and nation-welcomes the transfer of the BRICS presidency to China for 2027. Drawing on thirteen years of experience engaging with the bloc, Sana'a reaffirms several key principles and positions: primarily, the urgent need to halt the aggression and the tragic loss of human life in Palestine, and the conviction that international stability and peace cannot be achieved without ending the brutal Israeli-Zionist occupation of Palestinian territories.
He emphasized that the crimes, systematic starvation, and forced displacement inflicted upon the Gaza Strip and the West Bank constitute crimes against humanity and genocide, thereby shattering Western claims regarding human rights. He reiterated that a just and comprehensive solution is only possible through ending the occupation, securing the Palestinian people's full and inalienable rights, and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Quds as its capital.
The Supreme Political Council member also affirmed Sana'a's principled and steadfast rejection of all forms of "economic terrorism," blockades, and unilateral sanctions imposed outside the framework of international legitimacy-measures aimed at starving populations and restricting their right to development, whether in Yemen, Iran, Cuba, or elsewhere in the world. He highlighted another equally important principle upheld by Sana'a: the right of peoples to self-determination and the independence of national decision-making. He stated, "The steadfastness of our resistance against the Saudi enemy stems from the firm belief that peoples possess an inherent right to safeguard their resources and build their national sovereignty, free from external tutelage and hegemony. This aligns the aspirations of the Yemeni people with those of the nations and peoples of the 'Global South' who seek liberation, justice, and economic and military independence."
He added, "We emphasize the philosophical and practical significance of the calls contained in the New Delhi Declaration-such as strengthening financial and monetary autonomy through the use of national currencies and the establishment of independent payment mechanisms, advancing technology and innovation, and rebuilding the global trading system on non-discriminatory foundations."
In concluding his statement, Dr. Bin Habtoor described the calls included in the declaration as a pivotal step toward breaking the shackles of dependency and establishing a balanced global order that meets the aspirations of free and conscious peoples.
