Taiz:The Ministry of Education and Scientific Research has strongly condemned the actions of Saudi-backed mercenaries in Taiz for converting Taiz University grounds into a landfill. The ministry described this as a flagrant violation of the university campus and an affront to its educational mission.
According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry issued a statement on Saturday highlighting the threat posed to the university environment, students, faculty, and staff due to the accumulation of waste and the associated risk of diseases and epidemics.
The ministry emphasized that Taiz University has achieved progress in international rankings, securing a prominent position among Yemeni universities. It stressed that such academic accomplishments deserve support instead of practices that undermine the institution's standing and scientific mission.
Furthermore, the ministry condemned the situation as an assault on education and academics, asserting the need to protect national institutions to ensure they can fulfill their educational and research missions. It also called for firm action against practices threatening the safety of university members or undermining its academic standing.
In its statement, the ministry commended the students for their awareness and commitment to protecting their institution, highlighting their right to responsibly express legitimate demands in defense of their safety and learning environment. The ministry held Saudi-backed mercenaries accountable, demanding an end to the use of university grounds as a landfill, the removal of waste, and measures to address health and environmental impacts.
The statement concluded by reaffirming that universities are beacons of knowledge established to develop people and shape the future, not to serve as dumping grounds.
