Sanaa: The Entisaf Organization for Women's and Children's Rights has criticized the United Nations and its subsidiaries for failing to uphold their responsibilities toward the Yemeni and Palestinian peoples.
According to Yemen News Agency, the organization issued a statement on World Humanitarian Day, August 19, highlighting the dire need for humanitarian aid in both regions. The statement noted that over 21.6 million people in Yemen are in need of humanitarian assistance, while more than 2.4 million individuals in northern Gaza face life-threatening hunger. Despite these urgent needs, the UN's role has been notably absent, with support withdrawn from critical sectors such as healthcare.
The statement further emphasized the harsh conditions faced by the populations in Yemen and Palestine, including inadequate healthcare, violence, displacement, and forced migration. It criticized the UN for failing to uphold the rights that international laws and treaties are supposed to guarantee.
The organization pointed out a significant lack of transparency, accountability, and integrity in the UN's humanitarian efforts, urging for more participatory approaches in implementing programs in Yemen and Palestine. It also called on the international humanitarian community to reassess the operational mechanisms of global organizations, which often lack transparency and integrity in their aid distribution.
Moreover, the statement condemned the delivery of substandard, expired, and unusable aid since the onset of conflicts in Yemen and Gaza, which has exacerbated the suffering of the local populations already enduring severe hardships.
Additionally, the statement highlighted a disturbing rise in violence against relief workers in Palestine, including the killing, injury, and abduction of aid personnel, along with the destruction of numerous humanitarian facilities by Zionist forces.
