However, the energy sub-index rose 1.9 percent as oil prices climbed, while the utilities and telecommunications sub-indices gained 0.7 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.
The travel and tourism sector led the declines, falling 2 percent, while the automotive and banking sub-indices both dropped 1.8 percent. High oil prices continue to cast a shadow over European economies heavily reliant on energy, keeping investors on edge.
