Sana'a: An expanded meeting held in Sana'a approved on Sunday the comprehensive implementation plan for the Smart Traffic Signal Project. The meeting brought together the Chairman of the General Corporation for Roads and Bridges, Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Hadrami, Director General of Traffic Police Maj. Gen. Dr. Bakeel Al-Barashi, Director General of Sana'a Electricity Corporation Waleed Al-Mutawakel, Communications Ministry Adviser Eng. Akram Awadh, and other relevant officials. Participants confirmed the launch of the project's implementation in line with government directives to modernize traffic infrastructure and enhance road safety at major intersections.
According to Yemen News Agency, the attendees reviewed engineering studies and technical reports prepared by field survey committees and approved the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to implement the project in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and other relevant authorities, citing the ministry's expertise and advanced infrastructure in smart systems and digital connectivity.
The meeting also approved the project's formal inclusion in the National Digital Transformation Strategy adopted by the Ministry of Communications as part of the Government of Change and Building Plan. Maj. Gen. Al-Barashi described the project as a strategic step toward improving traffic management, noting that the implementation plan clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of the participating entities.
Representatives of the government agencies praised the project, which aims to introduce a modern smart traffic signal system to improve traffic efficiency in the Capital Secretariat as a first phase, with plans to expand it to other governorates in line with technological development.
