Dhamar: The Eye of Humanity Center for Rights and Development expressed its surprise and condemnation of the vague statement issued by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, which lacked a clear and explicit condemnation of the Zionist entity and failed to identify the party responsible for the crime of targeting journalist Fatima Fatouni, a correspondent for Al-Mayadeen TV, her brother, cameraman Mohammed Fatouni, and journalist Ali Shuaib, a correspondent for Al-Manar TV. The center confirmed in a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA) that this stance raises serious questions about the Commission's commitment to the principles of neutrality and impartiality. It noted that vague statements do not contribute to protecting journalists but rather provide indirect cover for perpetrators and encourage impunity, which contradicts the Commission's supposed role as a body concerned with protecting human rights and defending victims.
According to Yemen News Agency, the center condemned this trend, expressing its regret that some international institutions have succumbed to positions lacking clarity and credibility, making them more akin to justifying violations than addressing them. The center called on all human rights and humanitarian organizations, at both the Arab and international levels, to take urgent action and adopt clear and explicit positions that reflect a genuine commitment to human rights principles, free from politicization and pressure, and that contribute to protecting civilians, especially journalists and human rights activists, and ensuring that perpetrators of crimes are held accountable without exception.
It pointed out that dozens of journalists in Gaza, Yemen, Lebanon, Iran, and Iraq, as well as other countries, live under constant threat to their lives due to the continued disregard for the crimes committed against them. This emboldens the United States and Israeli occupation forces to persist in targeting them and attempting to silence the voice of truth through intimidation and by preventing them from carrying out their professional duties. It stressed that this dangerous reality necessitates urgent international action to guarantee their protection in accordance with the principles of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, and to put an end to these repeated violations.
