FAO Reports Fifth Consecutive Month of Decline in Global Food Prices

Rome: The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) confirmed on Friday that global food prices declined in January last, marking the fifth consecutive month of decline, supported by falling prices for dairy products, sugar, and meat.

According to Yemen News Agency, FAO stated that its Food Price Index, which tracks monthly changes in a basket of globally traded food commodities, averaged 123.9 points in January last, a decrease of 0.4 percent from December and 0.6 percent year-on-year.

The report explained that the index is 22.7 percent lower than its all-time high recorded in March 2022.

It pointed out that dairy product prices recorded the largest decline among the main product groups, falling by five percent on a monthly basis, thanks to lower cheese and butter prices.
