Hodeida: The Hodeida branch of the Yemeni Red Crescent Society, in coordination with the Health and Environment Office, has launched a fogging campaign aimed at combating mosquito-borne diseases, particularly dengue fever and malaria. This initiative is supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and funded by the Japanese Red Cross.
According to Yemen News Agency, the nine-day campaign is part of the National Malaria Control Program's emergency response. It seeks to reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases and strengthen preventive interventions in the most vulnerable areas across several districts within Hodeida city.
During the campaign's launch, the Deputy Governor for City Affairs, Ali Kabari, commended the efforts of the Yemeni Red Crescent branch, the Health Office, and partner organizations for their role in implementing and supporting this initiative. He highlighted its importance in enhancing community-based prevention, limiting the spread of epidemics, and safeguarding public health.
Deputy Governor for Services Affairs, Mohammed Halisi, underscored the governorate's prioritization of such campaigns due to their direct impact on community protection, especially in densely populated districts. He affirmed the local authority's dedication to overcoming challenges and facilitating the work of field teams.
Dr. Fouad al-Makhdhi, Secretary-General of the Yemeni Red Crescent Society, emphasized that the campaign is part of an emergency response plan aimed at reducing the incidence of mosquito-borne diseases. He reiterated the Society's commitment to ongoing health and humanitarian interventions in coordination with partners and in support of the health sector in the governorate.
Dr. Ali al-Haddad, Director of the Governorate Health Office, described the campaign as a vital preventive measure within a broader package of health interventions to combat epidemic diseases. He urged citizens to cooperate with implementation teams and adhere to health guidelines to ensure the campaign's success.
Jaber al-Razihi, director of the Yemeni Red Crescent branch in Hodeida, explained that the fogging campaign helps break the disease transmission cycle and is among the most effective preventive measures for controlling the spread of dengue fever and malaria. He noted that spraying operations would be conducted according to a specific field plan and in coordination with relevant authorities.
