Sana'a: A free eye care and surgery camp was inaugurated on Monday at Al-Ahad Rural Hospital in Wasab Al-Safel District of Dhamar Governorate. The camp aims to provide crucial medical services to the residents of this remote area.
According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative is spearheaded by the Health Care Association for Affected Communities and funded by the Zakat Authority in coordination with the Ministry of Health and its local office. Deputy Head of the General Authority of Zakat, Ali Al-Saqqaf, emphasized the importance of these eye camps as essential projects designed to deliver services to the poor and needy. He announced an increase in the number of planned medical camps for 1447 AH from 10 to 15, covering various medical specialties.
Al-Saqqaf encouraged the association and camp organizers to persist in their efforts until all necessary cases are addressed, even if it means extending the duration of the camp. Hassan Tammah, Head of the Health Committee at the General Authority of Zakat, elaborated that this is the 35th camp funded by the Authority, providing surgical services, treatments, and essential medical supplies like eyeglasses. The Authority is also behind several other health initiatives, including Life Support projects and medical financial assistance.
Director of the Zakat Authority branch in the governorate, Ibrahim Al-Mutawakel, highlighted the camp's significance in ensuring access to essential services for beneficiaries in the remote Wasab districts, thereby alleviating patient suffering. He remarked that the Authority's commitment to such camps and projects demonstrates its dedication to efficiently allocating Zakat funds to those in dire need.
District Director Fouad Al-Qudaimi commended the General Authority of Zakat for its efforts in mitigating the hardships faced by the poor in various sectors. He underscored the necessity of such interventions in Wasab Al-Safel, especially in health, relief, and development sectors, due to the district's isolation. Al-Qudaimi also urged the Zakat Authority to aid in expanding Al-Ahad Rural Hospital and praised its support for flood-affected residents last year.
Dr. Nashwan Al-Attab, Chairman of the Health Care Association, stated that the camp will run from Shawwal 18 to 21, offering medical consultations and performing 200 surgeries, including cataract operations and other eye treatments. This camp is part of a broader series of 70 camps previously organized by the association in various governorates, benefiting 94,371 patients and completing 12,360 surgeries.
