General Authority for Antiquities, Museums Issues 36th List of Looted Yemeni Antiquities

Sana'a: The General Authority for Antiquities and Museums issued on Monday its 36th list of looted Yemeni artifacts-items that have been identified and tracked while appearing in auctions and museums abroad.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Authority reported that it had identified 17 stolen Yemeni artifacts and heritage items originally held in the Baynun and Zafar museums. The items are categorized into two groups: the first comprises 15 Yemeni heritage pieces stolen from the Baynun Museum in the Al-Hada District of Dhamar Governorate-items previously recorded in the museum's 2020 inventory-while the second group consists of two artifacts stolen from the Zafar Museum in Ibb Governorate in 2021.

The statement noted that these items are being added to the Authority's lists for documentation, cataloging, and tracking purposes, as the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums continues to pursue the cases regarding them.

The General Authority for Antiquities and Museums affirmed its continued commitment to monitoring and tracking Yemeni artifacts that have left the country and notifying relevant international bodies, as part of its documentation and follow-up procedures aimed at protecting antiquities and cultural property.
