Hajjah: Hajjah governor Hilal Al-Sufi, along with Hajjah undersecretary Ibrahim Amer and Local Council Member Ali Jubran, conducted an inspection on Monday of several dams and water barriers in the Bakil Al-Mir district. The inspection aimed to evaluate the condition of these infrastructures and their capacity to support local agriculture and water supply.
According to Yemen News Agency, the officials, accompanied by directors from the governorate's health office, Rural Water Projects Authority branch, and the district director, assessed the water storage levels of the dams and barriers. The visit highlighted the significance of these structures in groundwater replenishment and irrigation of agricultural lands.
During the visit, local farmers provided insights into how the dams and barriers assist in expanding grain cultivation, a notable feature of the district, while addressing water scarcity issues and replenishing surface wells.
Governor Al-Sufi and Undersecretary Amer stressed the importance of these infrastructures for water and food security. They acknowledged the community's role in constructing and maintaining these facilities and reiterated the governorate's commitment to supporting rainwater harvesting initiatives.
The officials encouraged the expansion of water barrier construction in collaboration with local authorities and the community. This expansion aims to benefit farmers and promote the increased cultivation of crops, with a focus on grains.
