Sana'a: The Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in Hajjah Governorate has launched a new electronic meter-reading and automated field billing system. The initiative aims to streamline operations and enhance the accuracy of field data collection.
According to Yemen News Agency, General Manager Ibrahim Saasah was briefed by the system's programmer, engineer Khaled Al-Ashwal, about the program's functionalities. The system is expected to expedite work processes, improve efficiency, and strengthen oversight within the corporation. Saasah emphasized that the new system represents a crucial advancement in their operations, reducing errors and allowing for better resource management.
Saasah highlighted that the system will minimize meter-reading errors, monitor subscribers' consumption more effectively, and speed up the billing process. It will also allow for bill tracking through smart applications, ensuring that citizens have direct access to their consumption information. This move is anticipated to eliminate estimated readings, reduce complaints, and automate field collection, thereby preventing debt accumulation.
Engineer Amin Humaid, Director of the Information Systems Department, noted that a select group of subscribers would participate in the initial rollout. Meter readers are set to receive training on the new system, which will record accurate consumption data and attach meter images to water-use records. The system utilizes optical character recognition technology to read consumption automatically, among other features.
