Hajjah Zakat Office Implements Projects Worth Over 2.19 Billion YER in 2024: Report

Hajjah: The General Authority of Zakat Office in Hajjah governorate has successfully implemented a series of projects in 2024, investing a total of 2,186,000,000 YER in various charitable and humanitarian efforts. These projects were aimed at supporting families of martyrs, the wounded, and missing persons, as well as promoting and expanding Zakat initiatives in line with Sharia principles to address the needs of the society.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Zakat Department focused on creating projects that benefit the poor, needy, and affected individuals, while also developing resources that reached 2,233,953,000 YER during the same period. The projects included community initiatives like road support to ease transportation, medical assistance for debtors, social care, and emergency response.

The decentralized approach to Zakat disbursement has been instrumental in expediting the delivery of aid, both cash and in-kind, to eligible individuals across all districts of the governorate. A report from the General Authority of Zakat Office revealed that over 80,000 beneficiaries were aided during the past year through various Zakat projects.

Significant projects highlighted in the report include Zakat al-Fitr, benefiting 34,903 individuals with a total expenditure of 698,060,000 YER. Additionally, 800 couples were assisted through the fourth mass wedding project, costing 320,000,000 YER, with further marriage assistance provided to 467 grooms through the Decentralized Exchange Project at a cost of 77,111,000 YER.

Medical assistance projects reached 3,793 people, costing 222,221,000 YER, and debtor assistance was provided to 210 individuals, totaling 111,776,000 YER. Other initiatives like grain distribution, in-kind Zakat, and charity kitchens during Ramadan collectively benefited thousands, with substantial financial allocations.

The report also noted the success of social welfare assistance, cash aid, and community initiatives, with projects like gas cylinder distribution targeting 16,346 families. Emergency responses aided 831 individuals affected by natural calamities, while educational support extended to Quranic schools and orphanages.

The office has prioritized enhancing staff capabilities through training programs for 214 employees, aiming to improve performance and Zakat revenue. Director Fayed Al-Malahi stressed the need for ongoing community cooperation and emphasized the importance of decentralized projects in delivering aid efficiently.

Al-Malahi commended the leadership and local authorities for their efforts in advancing Zakat work, fostering social solidarity, and ensuring the successful implementation of charitable projects that are vital for societal well-being and Sharia compliance.
