Heritage & Folk Traditions Festival Held at Historic Bin Abbas Port in Hodeidah

Hodeidah: The historic Bin Abbas Port in Al-Munirah District, Hodeidah Governorate, hosted the sixth festival for reviving heritage and folk traditions under the slogan 'Our Heritage Is Our Identity.'

According to Yemen News Agency, the festival highlighted the rich Tihami heritage and its role in preserving Yemeni cultural identity, showcasing folk arts, traditional dances, social customs, handicrafts, as well as maritime and agricultural traditions linked to coastal life. It was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water Resources, and the local authority, with broad official and community participation.

Hodeidah Governor Abdullah Atifi emphasized that Tihami heritage is a core pillar of Yemen's authentic identity, reflecting values of belonging, solidarity, and deep historical roots. He stressed the importance of protecting this heritage from fading and transforming it into a living field for documentation and learning, noting the historical significance of Bin Abbas Port.

Speakers at the festival underscored the need to document and promote folk heritage as a source of cultural creativity and soft power, to integrate it into educational and community frameworks. They affirmed that reviving heritage preserves collective memory and strengthens social values.

The festival, attended by thousands, featured artistic performances, folk dances, and a heritage operetta depicting the region's cultural legacy and maritime wealth.
