Hodeida Governor Launches Second Phase of Corn Marketing at Al-Jarahi Cooperative

Hodeida: Hodeida governor Abdullah Atifi launched on Sunday in al-Jarahi district the second phase of corn marketing, totaling 140 tons. This phase was implemented by al-Jarahi Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative as part of the contract farming project.

According to Yemen News Agency, the marketing process is being carried out under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources - through the Contract Farming Unit - and in coordination with the local branch of the Agricultural Cooperative Union and the Tihama Development Authority. During the launch, governor Atifi considered this achievement a true result of the combined efforts of cooperative societies and farmers, and a response to the directives of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council aimed at achieving agricultural development. He praised the high quality of this year's crop.

He emphasized the importance of continuing to improve the specifications of national products and increase production rates as a fundamental pillar for ensuring food security and reducing reliance on imports, ultimately achieving comprehensive self-sufficiency that guarantees the stability of the local market and strengthens national resilience.

For his part, the Deputy Governor for the Southern Districts, Mutahhar al-Hadi, explained that launching the marketing of local crops is part of an ambitious national strategy to replace imported products with locally produced ones, thus contributing to reducing the import bill and supporting the national economy. He pointed out that al-Jarahi district has become a distinguished model in the cultivation and marketing of strategic crops thanks to sound planning and effective coordination among the various stakeholders.

In turn, the Secretary-General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union, Engineer Muhammad al-Qahoum, reviewed the crucial role of the production groups formed by al-Jarahi Association, which have effectively contributed to raising production efficiency through vertical expansion and the application of modern technologies that have helped reduce costs and improve quality. He explained that the cooperatives' undertaking of direct marketing tasks ensures the protection of farmers' rights and provides the product to the consumer at fair prices, considering these steps the right path to achieving food sovereignty.
