Hodeida Hosts Field Day to Boost Maize Farming Efforts

Hodeida: A field day dedicated to maize farmers was held in the al-Kadan area of the al-Dhahi district in Hodeida province, showcasing locally produced maize varieties. Organized by Jannat Seeds Company for Seed Production under the slogan “Hand in Hand.. We Plant Tomorrow,” the event highlighted the importance of maize cultivation for food security and farmer income.

According to Yemen News Agency, officials emphasized the strategic importance of maize as a staple crop and the potential of the Tihama Plain for its cultivation. They praised Jannat Seeds Company’s efforts in developing and testing high-yielding maize hybrids. The company showcased 12 locally produced individual maize hybrids, developed through extensive research and testing.

They stressed the importance of linking research with practical application and fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors to enhance agricultural development. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Cooperative Union highlighted the crucial role of the agricultural sector in achieving food self-sufficiency, particularly in the face of ongoing challenges. They reiterated their commitment to supporting the private sector and encouraging investment in agriculture.
