Hodeida: Sahel Tihama Cooperative Society, in cooperation with the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea, launched the sale of fish using electronic scales at the fishing port in Hodeida city. Hodeida undersecretary for Services, Mohammed Halisi, emphasized that weighing fish helps reduce price manipulation and ensures fair market access for consumers. He called for wider adoption of this method to benefit both producers and buyers.
According to Yemen News Agency, Deputy Head of the Fisheries Authority Abdulmalik Sabra mentioned that the system represents a key step in organizing the fish sector and protecting the rights of fishermen and consumers. He added that the system will be applied in other fish landing centers.
Director of Sahel Tihama Cooperative, Mohammed Najeeb, highlighted the role of the fisheries sector in ensuring food security. He noted that the initiative followed studies addressing market issues and complaints from fishermen. The launch aims to enhance service quality, production standards, and sector stability.
