Sana'a: The Hodeida branch of the Yemeni Council for Medical and Health Specializations initiated the written entrance exams for Fellowship and Master's programs at Al-Thawra General Hospital Authority. This academic event, intended for the 2026-2027 academic session, involved 54 male and female physicians.
According to Yemen News Agency, the examinations focused on various medical specialties, including Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Urology, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Orthopedic Surgery, and a Master's program in Internal Medicine. Dr. Khaled Suhail, Head of the Council's branch, inspected the exam process and reviewed the organizational standards in place to ensure adherence to approved procedures.
Dr. Suhail remarked on the increasing interest in medical specialization, noting that the number of resident physicians in the 2025-2026 academic year reached 124. Since the branch's inception in 2019 with Master's programs in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics, it has graduated 42 doctors across several specialties. Among these graduates are 24 female OB/GYN specialists who have significantly contributed to the medical staff at various hospitals and rural districts.
Dr. Suhail highlighted the expansion of training programs to include Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Radiology, General Surgery, and Vascular Surgery. He emphasized the graduates' contribution to improving medical services in rural and remote areas. He credited the support from the Minister of Public Health and Environment for enhancing specialized medical education and addressing the health sector's needs.
Vice President of the branch, Dr. Abdullah Zuhairi, noted that oral and scientific interviews for applicants are scheduled for next Thursday, completing the admission process for the upcoming academic year. Dr. Mohammad Al-Abdali, Registrar-General, stressed the importance of aligning admissions with academic standards to select qualified applicants effectively. He reiterated the significance of postgraduate programs in developing specialized medical personnel and improving healthcare services in the region.
