Hodeidah: The Hodeidah branch of the General Authority of Zakat held a ceremony on Sunday to announce its most prominent humanitarian, social, and development achievements implemented from the beginning of 2026 until May, under the slogan: 'Your Zakat is Giving. and Benevolence Reaches Those Who Deserve It,' with total costs exceeding 2.046 billion rials.
According to Yemen News Agency, during the event, the Chairman of the General Authority of Awqaf and Guidance, Scholar Abdulmajeed Al-Houthi, emphasized the humanitarian and social role played by the Zakat Authority in supporting the poor and needy, while strengthening a culture of charity within society. He highlighted that the establishment of the Zakat and Awqaf authorities was driven by religious and national responsibility toward society, aiming to organize zakat and endowment resources to benefit eligible groups and achieve significant humanitarian and developmental impact.
Al-Houthi commended the efforts of both authorities in realizing humanitarian and development goals through relief packages and Ramadan projects, which supported vulnerable families, cared for orphans, assisted students and scholars, maintained mosques, and implemented community-benefit initiatives. He stressed the importance of collective awareness of religious responsibility, noting that fulfilling this obligation helps preserve the dignity of the poorest families and shields society from the adverse effects of poverty.
He urged business owners, taxpayers, and wealthy individuals to pay their zakat through trusted official channels, viewing compliance with this obligation as a key pillar for sustainable development and enabling vulnerable groups to achieve self-sufficiency and productivity.
During the event, Hodeidah deputy governors Mohammed Hulaisi and Ali Al-Kubari were present, and Acting Head of the Awareness and Communication Sector at the Zakat Authority Judge Hafiz Allah Zayed remarked that the Authority's achievements indicate growing public trust in zakat operations and the mechanisms of fund distribution. He highlighted the Authority's efforts in raising community awareness on the importance of zakat and its role in reinforcing social solidarity and cooperation among society members.
Zayed portrayed the Authority's projects as a practical model for directing zakat funds to the most needy groups, aiming for livelihood stability for impoverished families across various districts. He emphasized the importance of joint efforts to support the General Zakat Authority's plans and expand its project coverage, contributing to sustainable economic improvement for poor families and facilitating their transition from dependency to productivity.
Director of the Zakat Office in the governorate, Mohammed Hazza, reviewed key projects and initiatives, including humanitarian, social, development projects, Ramadan assistance programs, and debt relief initiatives implemented in the first half of 2026. He noted that the projects encompassed cash and in-kind aid distribution, support for poor families, orphan care, and community initiatives to alleviate suffering across all districts of the governorate, enhancing humanitarian and development work.
Hazza added that the total cost of projects and initiatives by the office between January and May 2026 exceeded 2.046 billion rials, as part of ongoing efforts to expand the reach of zakat funds and ensure support reaches eligible beneficiaries across the governorate.
