HR Commission Condemns Saudi Aggression Targeting Civilians in Taiz and Hajjah

Sanaa:The National Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned the escalation of violence by Saudi forces, highlighting their systematic targeting of civilians in the governorates of Taiz and Hajjah.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Commission issued a statement criticizing the Saudi aggressor for what it described as a "reckless, criminal escalation" against the Yemeni people. Recently, Saudi aircraft and mobilized forces have reportedly committed numerous attacks on civilians and infrastructure in these regions.

The Commission detailed incidents in Taiz Governorate where Saudi airstrikes targeted the densely populated Al-Sarari area and a sports hall in the Al-Sanah area of Al-Ma'afir District, causing significant damage to civilian facilities and terrorizing families. Additionally, in the Hajjah Governorate, a massacre occurred in the village of Al-Mahjam, resulting in one woman's death and serious injury to a young girl.

The Commission emphasized that these actions constitute war crimes under international law, referencing the Rome Statute and Geneva Conventions. It urged the United Nations to condemn the escalation, citing over 2,900 airstrikes in 100 days, and to hold the Saudi regime accountable for its actions. The Commission intends to present a legal dossier to the International Criminal Court to address these violations.
