Human Rights Authority Condemns Strikes on Oil Station and Medical College in Yemen

Hodeidah:The National Human Rights Authority has condemned the Saudi-led strikes targeting the Oil Company's station in Bajil district and the College of Medicine at Hodeidah University. These incidents have been labeled as new additions to the record of war crimes allegedly committed by the Saudi forces.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Human Rights Authority reported that Saudi aircraft launched a series of airstrikes on the College of Medicine at Hodeidah University, resulting in the complete destruction of its facilities. The Authority emphasized that educational institutions are civilian objects with special protection under international law, and such attacks are considered war crimes under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The Authority further declared that the bombing of the College of Medicine constitutes an act of genocide and a crime against humanity, particularly affecting Hodeidah Governorate, which is already facing a severe humanitarian crisis. The statement underscored the attack's impact on the future of medical education and healthcare in the region.

In addressing the strikes on the Oil Company station, the Authority stated that the airstrikes resulted in severe injuries to three citizens and the total destruction of the facility. This action is described as a war crime against a civilian object, essential for providing fuel to critical infrastructure such as hospitals and water wells.

The statement also called upon international bodies, including the United Nations, UNESCO, and the World Health Organization, to condemn these actions and urged them to uphold the protection of basic services in Yemen. The Authority held the Saudi regime accountable for the attacks and demanded compensation for the affected individuals and communities.

The Authority concluded by noting that a field team visited the sites to document the incidents, with plans to submit evidence to the International Criminal Court for further action.
