Human Rights Commission Blasts Cluster Bombing in Dhamar

Dhamar:The National Human Rights Commission has issued a strong condemnation of the Saudi airstrikes on civilian homes in the Dhooran Aness District of Dhamar Governorate, which involved the use of internationally banned cluster munitions.

According to Yemen News Agency, the attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 12 others, including five children and three women, one of whom was pregnant. The assault also led to a miscarriage suffered by one of the injured women.

The commission labeled the attack on residential areas as both a war crime and a crime against humanity, referencing Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. They emphasized that the use of cluster munitions, which are prohibited under the 2008 Dublin Convention, represents a serious escalation, posing long-term dangers to civilians.

Furthermore, the commission held the Saudi forces fully legally and criminally responsible for the incident. It urged the United Nations, its envoy to Yemen, UNICEF, and UN Women to condemn the attack and end their silence on the matter.
