Taiz:The National Commission for Human Rights has strongly condemned a brutal airstrike carried out by Saudi aircraft on Monday, which targeted a civilian home in the Al-Ma'afir District. The attack resulted in the deaths of three women and an elderly man, while three others, mostly women and children, sustained injuries.
According to Yemen News Agency, this incident followed another airstrike just 24 hours earlier, where Saudi forces targeted the central market in Taiz, a site crowded with civilians, leaving seven dead and wounding 43 others. The Commission described these attacks as flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.
The statement from the Commission categorized these assaults as war crimes under Article 8 of the Rome Statute, emphasizing that the targeting of civilian populations and objects, like homes and markets, breaches protections afforded by international law. It accused Saudi forces of organized state terrorism and a deliberate pattern of targeting civilians, holding them fully liable for the attacks.
The Commission highlighted the premeditated nature of the dual attacks, interpreting them as systematic collective punishment against the people of Taiz. It urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations to condemn these actions and called for international accountability for the perpetrators.
The Commission demanded that those responsible be referred to the International Criminal Court, asserting that justice will be sought for the victims and that there will be no statute of limitations for these crimes.
