Sana'a: The National Human Rights Commission condemned in the strongest terms the Saudi artillery shelling on the Bani Mu'in area in the border district of Razih in Saa governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Commission, in a statement, pointed out that this systematic targeting contradicts the most basic rules of international humanitarian law and constitutes a clear violation of the principles of the four Geneva Conventions and their two Additional Protocols.
The Commission affirmed that shelling populated border areas is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and falls under crimes of attacking civilians and their property. It held the Saudi enemy fully responsible for the material and psychological damage inflicted on civilians, for terrorizing the peaceful, and for displacing them from their homes and farms. The statement emphasized that the continuation of such hostile actions undermines any humanitarian or political effort to end the suffering of Yemenis.
The Commission called on the UN Security Council and the UN Envoy to issue a clear and explicit condemnation of these attacks and to take immediate action to compel the aggressor to stop shelling border areas. Furthermore, it urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to act urgently to document these violations, compel the Saudi aggression to immediately halt its targeting of villages and border areas, and adhere to international humanitarian law.
The National Human Rights Commission expressed concern that the international community's silence and disregard for these repeated crimes are what encourage their continuation.
