Humanitarian Coordination Center Imposes Ban on Maritime Traffic to Haifa Port

General

Sana'a: The Humanitarian Coordination Center (HOCC) has announced a comprehensive ban on maritime traffic to and from the port of Haifa. This decision follows the Yemeni Armed Forces' announcement on May 19, 2025, which imposed a maritime embargo on the port.

According to Yemen News Agency, the HOCC's statement, which was released today, prohibits ships from loading or unloading at the port of Haifa, including indirect transactions such as ship-to-ship transfers. The decision is set to take effect on May 20, 2025, at 00:01 a.m. Sana'a time, aligning with May 19, 21:01 p.m. UTC.

The HOCC emphasized that this measure is a response to the Israeli expansion of aggression against Gaza. It is part of the HOCC's religious, humanitarian, and moral obligations to support the Palestinian people who are experiencing severe hardships, including restrictions on medicine and food for over a year.

The HOCC has contacted shipping companies to warn them of the risks involved with navigating ships to and from Haifa. Companies violating the ban may face sanctions, affecting their entire fleets and partnerships.

Shipping companies have been advised to ensure no direct or indirect connections to the port of Haifa in their operations. Violations will result in sanctions prohibiting fleets from crossing significant maritime routes and may lead to targeting by Yemeni armed forces.

The HOCC expressed hope that these actions will pressure the Israeli authorities to cease their aggression and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. The center reiterated its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people through these sanctions.
