Iraq: Ibb University has achieved a new academic and research milestone by maintaining its second-place ranking among 37 Yemeni universities in the AD Scientific Index 2026, while recording notable progress in ranking indicators at the national, Asian, and global levels.
According to Yemen News Agency, the ranking results show that Ibb University placed 1,292nd in Asia out of 10,692 universities, improving from its previous position of 2,207th in the 2025 edition. Globally, it advanced to 3,382nd place out of 19,609 universities, compared to 5,238th last year, marking a rise of 1,856 positions worldwide and reflecting the university's growing scientific presence and international competitiveness.
The ranking results highlighted steady development in the university's research performance. Based on overall indicators, including the H-index, i10-index, and total citations, the university improved from ninth place in 2024 to sixth place in 2025, and then to second place in 2026. The university also advanced in the indicator measuring total scientific citations over the past five years, moving from 11th place to third place, demonstrating continued growth in the quality and impact of its research output.
The results also indicated that 77 researchers from Ibb University were included in the ranking database, reflecting the expansion of its active research community, increased scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, and higher citation rates for published studies. The university demonstrated strong performance in several fields, including medical and health sciences, engineering and technology, natural sciences, agricultural sciences, social sciences, and architecture and design.
Ibb University President Dr. Nasr Al-Hajili stated that the achievement is the result of continuous institutional efforts to develop the research system, improve academic performance quality, and strengthen the environment for research and innovation at the university. He emphasized that maintaining second place nationally while advancing globally reflects the university's commitment to implementing its strategic vision aimed at achieving academic excellence.
Dr. Al-Hajili added that the university will continue supporting researchers and faculty members, expanding graduate studies programs, and strengthening scientific and research partnerships with universities and academic institutions inside and outside Yemen. These efforts, he said, aim to improve the quality of scientific output, enhance Ibb University's presence in international rankings, and consolidate its position among leading universities regionally and globally.
