Sana'a: Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtour, a member of the Supreme Political Council, affirmed on Sunday that the UN Security Council statement issued on August 7, 2026, reflects a clear bias towards the Saudi narrative in its description of events. This bias is evident in the statement's condemnation of the outcomes and reactions, while ignoring the true causes and the actions that led to them.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Supreme Political Council member indicated that the Security Council statement, in its current form, will not contribute to de-escalation or advance a serious path towards the desired peace. He argued that measures such as the resumption of flights to Sana'a International Airport and efforts to lift blockades are legitimate rights that should not be condemned or portrayed as the core of the problem, especially given the ongoing air blockade and bombardment by Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Bin Habtour emphasized the importance of true sovereignty, asserting that Yemenis should control their own airports, seaports, waters, and resources. He criticized the use of sovereignty as a cover for continued Saudi control and domination, which perpetuates the blockade and restricts Yemeni citizens' freedom of movement.
He further stated that for the UN Security Council to genuinely support peace and Yemeni sovereignty, it must start by lifting the blockade and ending aggression. He called for a just resolution to the ongoing Yemeni conflict, which has persisted for more than 12 years, by respecting the rights and sovereignty of the Yemeni people.
