Sanaa: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed today, Monday, its full readiness to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in a manner that prioritizes the safety and dignity of civilians.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Committee's President, Mirjana Spoljaric, emphasized the necessity of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza as essential for saving lives and breaking the ongoing cycle of death and destruction. Spoljaric stated that the Committee's teams are prepared to act as a neutral humanitarian intermediary to assist in the transfer of prisoners and to ensure the safe distribution of aid to civilians in need.
Spoljaric further highlighted the severe suffering of civilians in Gaza due to ongoing hostilities and restrictions on aid entry. She stressed the importance of resuming the full capacity flow of assistance to ensure it reaches all in need.
With U.S. and European support, the Israeli army has continued its operations in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in significant civilian casualties. The preliminary tally reports the martyrdom of 67,160 Palestinian civilians, predominantly children and women, with 169,679 others injured to date. Thousands remain trapped under rubble and in the streets, inaccessible to rescue and ambulance teams.
