Bani al-harith: In Bani Al-Harith District of the Capital Secretariat, work began on Saturday on laying concrete slabs as part of the rainwater drainage canal completion project on Criminal Investigation Street, along with the leveling of several streets through a community initiative.
According to Yemen News Agency, during his inspection of the ongoing work, accompanied by district sheikhs and notables, Bani Al-Harith District Director Hamad bin Rakan stressed the importance of the project being implemented by the Yemen Al-Saeed Foundation for Community Initiatives at a cost of 406 million riyals. He highlighted its role in alleviating environmental and health problems caused by rainwater and floodwater accumulation, which had previously turned the area into a stagnant pool and disrupted traffic flow.
He explained that this initiative is considered one of the largest and most significant community initiatives at both the district and capital levels. He called on community and development institutions as well as business leaders to support and adopt such initiatives that directly address citizens' needs.
The district director praised the role and efforts of the Capital's Mayor and the First Deputy Mayor, who from the very beginning endorsed and supported the initiative, noting that the Capital Secretariat contributed 100 million riyals in support.
He also commended the chairman of Yemen Al-Saeed Foundation for Community Initiatives for adopting this creative initiative, as well as the cooperation of the local council, benefactors, community leaders, sheikhs, and members of the Bani Al-Harith community and cooperative association, who all contributed to its success.
For his part, the chairman of the implementing foundation, Dhiab Haidan, underscored the project's significance as part of the infrastructure, reducing the damage caused by floods and stagnant rainwater that had turned the area into a muddy pond with harmful environmental and health impacts.
He noted that the initiative is being carried out by Yemen Al-Saeed Foundation for Community Initiatives with funding of 100 million riyals from the local authority and 306 million riyals from the foundation, through the Community Initiatives Projects Department in the Secretariat. He expressed confidence that business leaders and benefactors from the community would continue to engage with the initiative, which seeks to drive sustainable positive change.
Haidan explained that the project includes the completion of the rainwater drainage canal on Criminal Investigation Street, asphalt restoration of the canal's 1,800-meter path, and its connection to the main drainage canal in the Daris area. It also involves surveying and leveling a number of main and side streets in the district. He emphasized the importance of community initiatives in achieving sustainable change, especially under the current circumstances.
He also stressed the need to strengthen partnerships between the foundation, local authorities, volunteers, and funders in adopting such projects, noting their role in improving services and meeting citizens' needs. He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Capital Secretariat and the district, as well as the sheikhs, community leaders, and all supporters of the initiative.
