Sana'a: The Intisaf Organization has held the US-Saudi aggression responsible for the deterioration of education in Yemen, highlighting the destruction of literacy centers and the sharp rise in illiteracy rates, especially among women.
According to Yemen News Agency, in a statement marking International Literacy Day, the organization reported that over 53 literacy and adult education centers and 19 basic and women's training centers were damaged, affecting more than 3,000 people, mostly women. It noted that illiteracy now affects 29.2 percent of Yemenis aged 10 and above-about 6.4 million people-due to war, blockade, displacement, and poverty.
The statement stressed that women in some governorates, such as Al-Hudaydah, face illiteracy rates exceeding 60 percent, warning of the expansion of child labor to four times pre-war levels. It urged the international community and humanitarian bodies to assume responsibility, stop the aggression, and establish an independent committee to investigate violations against the Yemeni people.
