Al-jawf: The Intisaf Organization for the Rights of Women and Children has issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack by Saudi forces on the Central Correctional Facility in Al-Hazm city, Al-Jawf Governorate. The assault has resulted in the initial toll of 14 casualties, including fatalities and injuries, among them a woman and a child.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Intisaf Organization has labeled this attack as a violation of international humanitarian law, emphasizing its infringement on key principles that protect civilians and differentiate between civilian and military targets. The organization highlighted that such actions are in direct contravention of Common Article 3 of the four Geneva Conventions, which explicitly prohibits attacks on non-combatants.
The organization expressed its outrage over the involvement of women and children among the victims, underscoring that their protection is a fundamental legal and humanitarian duty rather than a secondary concern. They have called for accountability, urging the identification and prosecution of those responsible for orchestrating and executing the attack per international law, to ensure that such grave violations do not go unpunished.
In its statement, the Intisaf Organization appealed to the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and other pertinent international entities to fulfill their legal and humanitarian duties, urging them to regard such incidents with the gravity they deserve rather than reducing them to mere statistics. The organization called for concerted efforts to prevent further assaults on Yemeni civilians.
Finally, the Intisaf Organization reaffirmed that the protection of civilian lives is non-negotiable and stressed that correctional facilities should not become venues of violence. The organization vowed to remain steadfast in advocating for the victims' rights to truth, justice, redress, and reparation.
