Islamic Committee of International Crescent Strengthens Humanitarian Efforts with New Resolutions

Nouakchott: The Islamic Committee of the International Crescent has concluded its 39th regular session in Nouakchott, Mauritania, by adopting a series of resolutions aimed at enhancing humanitarian efforts in Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states. The session, held on July 9 and 10, 2026, focused on bolstering the capacity of national Red Crescent and Red Cross societies. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the committee emphasized the importance of ensuring safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid, protecting relief and medical workers, and providing urgent support to crisis-affected groups in regions such as Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, the Sahel region, and the Lake Chad Basin. The Committee approved reports and plans from various departments, including the International Crescent Department, the Islamic Forum for International Humanitarian Law, and others. It also underscored the necessity of documenting Israeli violations in Palestinian territories and pro posed the establishment of a dedicated center for this purpose, in collaboration with Palestinian and Jordanian Red Crescent societies. Member states were urged to fulfill their financial commitments to allow for an expanded humanitarian response. The Committee adopted a budget of US$2 million for 2026 and outlined its annual work program. Leadership continuity was confirmed with the re-election of Ambassador Ali Mahmoud Bouhadma as Chairman and Ambassador Babiker Ba as Vice-Chairman for a two-year term. The Chairman was tasked with organizing the fortieth session of the Committee.
