Sanaa: The Islamic Radio and Television Union has issued a strong condemnation of the recent Israeli attacks targeting the 26 September and Al-Yemen newspapers in Yemen, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several journalists.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Union emphasized in a statement that the assault on media institutions and journalists is an attempt to silence the voice of truth and deny the public its legitimate right to access information and document the ongoing crimes and violations. The Union also highlighted the international community's responsibility to uphold freedom and human rights in the face of continuous Israeli attacks that remain unchecked.
The statement further declared that those who justify or cover up the aggression against media entities and journalists are fully responsible and are considered complicit in the crime. Additionally, the Union lauded the Yemeni media for its resilience and effectiveness in showcasing the determination of the Yemeni people amidst adversities, and for its significant role in advocating for justice and exposing crimes that the enemy entity seeks to hide.
The protection of journalists and media institutions, as the Union explained, is a right enshrined in international conventions and agreements, including the Geneva Conventions and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The Union called the Israeli aggression a clear breach of international law and an outright attack on media freedom.
The Islamic Radio and Television Union urged international, human rights, and humanitarian organizations, as well as global media outlets, to denounce the Israeli aggression and take prompt measures to hold those responsible accountable, including those who have provided cover or remained silent on the ongoing violations.
