Accra:The governorates of southern Syria are experiencing an increase in attacks by Israeli forces, with violations of sovereignty and ground incursions escalating significantly. These activities have intensified in the first three weeks of October, marking a notable rise in Israeli military movements in the region.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has documented 125 incursions in this period across the governorates of Quneitra, Daraa, and the Damascus countryside. This figure marks the highest monthly tally since the fall of the Assad regime. The incursions, which began intensively on December 8, 2024, have continued to increase, with SOHR recording a total of 1,229 incursions by October 21, 2026.
The documented incursions are accompanied by Israeli military activities such as raids, the establishment of temporary checkpoints, and the erection of dirt berms in villages and towns in the Quneitra countryside. These actions have included the control of strategic areas and the conversion of agricultural lands near the Raqqad River into pastures. The Israeli forces have also established military points on commanding heights like Mount Hermon, enhancing their control over the area.
Human rights and international reports have highlighted violations against civilians, including direct attacks, arbitrary arrests, and the destruction of property. These actions have resulted in numerous civilian casualties and significant disruption to the livelihoods of residents. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights documented 280 Israeli incursions in September alone, citing widespread violations and arbitrary detentions.
As the incursions continue, Syrian areas have witnessed protests against these actions, demanding an end to the incursions and the protection of civilians. The UN has called for Israel to respect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the need for measures that go beyond condemnation to protect the Syrian population.
