Tel aviv: Israeli media acknowledged on Sunday afternoon the success of a Yemeni drone strike on 'Ramon' Airport in the southern occupied Palestinian territories.
According to Yemen News Agency, a drone launched from Yemen entered the airspace of the occupied territories and reached its target without being intercepted or detected. The radio admitted the failure of the Israeli army's multi-layered air defense systems to detect and track the Yemeni drone.
Channel 14 reported that Israeli authorities deployed forces and firefighting teams to Ramon Airport without providing further details. Other Israeli media outlets quoted an Air Force spokesperson as saying that the southern airspace above Ramon Airport had been closed to air traffic.
Circulating video footage showed the moment a Yemeni drone exploded at Ramon Airport in the Negev. Russia Today, citing its correspondent in the occupied territories, reported that Yemeni drones entered the airspace at the same time the Israeli government was holding a meeting in a secret, fortified location, fearing targeted strikes and assassination attempts following Yemen's threats against Israel.
The report confirmed that Yemeni drones breached the airspace and that sirens sounded across the southern Negev desert. Since May 4, the Yemeni Armed Forces have imposed a ban on air navigation at Israeli airports and seaports, as part of their ongoing operations in support of Gaza since October 2023, in response to what they describe as genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, now in its 23rd month.
