Dhamar: Farmers from Al-Hizam in Rub' al-Had sub-district, Jabal Al-Sharq district of Dhamar governorate, have launched an initiative to uproot qat trees from their farms and replace them with coffee seedlings under the slogan: 'No to qat cultivation.'
According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Hizam farmers explained that the initiative aims to restore the historical status of the region, which has long been known for coffee cultivation. They expressed hope that their move to replace qat trees with coffee seedlings would receive support from the Agriculture Office and the Agricultural Cooperative Association in the district by providing more seedlings to keep pace with the expansion of coffee farming.
Local authorities in the district, the Agriculture Office, and the Jabal Al-Sharq Agricultural Cooperative Association praised the initiative as an important step toward expanding coffee cultivation. They called on all farmers to follow this developmental initiative, which benefits both farmers and the community, and adds to the achievements of the agricultural sector, stressing their readiness to provide agricultural inputs and high-quality seedlings, as well as sorting, processing, cleaning, packaging, and marketing services through the Coffee Development and Marketing Center.
