Al hodeidah: The General Corporation for Improved Seed Multiplication, in cooperation with the Bajil District Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Association in Al Hodeidah Governorate, has initiated the maize harvest for the 1447 AH agricultural season. The launch involved coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, local authorities, the Agricultural Cooperative Union, and was funded by the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in Al Hodeidah.
According to Yemen News Agency, during the event, Bajil District Director Abdulmunem Al-Rifa’i emphasized the significance of agricultural projects to reduce import costs. He highlighted the importance of improving production quality by expanding the use of improved seeds and increasing cultivated areas, aiming for sustainable agricultural development and enhanced food security. He acknowledged the efforts of the Bonyan Development Foundation, the Bajil Agricultural Cooperative Association, and the General Corporation for Improved Seed Multiplication in advancing the agricultural sector.
Secretary-General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union, Mohammed Al-Qahoum, stated that expanding grain and fodder crop cultivation is a strategic measure to meet local demands. He assured that current efforts are focused on cost assessment and ensuring economic feasibility to provide substantial returns for farmers.
Director of Plant Production Wajeeh Al-Mutawakel and Grain Chain Officer Shamssan Al-Numaireh noted that these initiatives are part of a plan to increase grain crop cultivation, thereby bolstering reliance on domestic production. Bonyan Foundation Coordinator Hadi Haij and Chairman of the Bajil Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Association Adel Sam remarked on the use of improved seeds and modern agricultural techniques, resulting in higher production efficiency and quality. They reported promising initial results in the Tihama areas, offering prospects for expanding this experience in future seasons.
