Sana'a: The Summer Football Cup of Martyr Mujahid Mohammed Abdulkarim Al-Ghamari kicked off on Wednesday at Omar Al-Mukhtar School in Shu'ub District, Sana'a Capital, organized by the school administration under the supervision of the district education office.
According to Yemen News Agency, the tournament will last for 16 days and features eight emerging youth teams selected from preliminary neighborhood leagues and summer centers. The teams have been divided into two groups and will compete in a league format.
At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Economy, Industry and Investment Sami Maqbuli emphasized the importance of the tournament, which carries the name of Martyr Al-Ghamari. The tournament honors Al-Ghamari's positions and sacrifices in defense of Yemen and in support of Gaza, as well as the causes and holy sites of the nation.
He acknowledged the efforts made in organizing the tournament, which includes participation from many youths of summer centers in Shu'ub District neighborhoods, as part of activities aimed at developing young people's abilities and refining their skills.
Secretary-General of Shu'ub Local Council Mohammed Al-Hadrami and Principal of Omar Al-Mukhtar School Naji Al-Madari stated that the tournament comes in recognition of Al-Ghamari's sacrifices and his role in confronting enemies and supporting the oppressed. They affirmed their commitment to supporting sports activities alongside cultural, religious, and educational programs in summer centers.
The opening match saw Imam Zaid team face Martyr Mohammed Al-Ghamari team, ending in a 1-0 victory for Imam Zaid.
