Zabid: The economic empowerment project to support people with disabilities, implemented by the Central Economic Empowerment Unit in cooperation with Al-Jarahi and Al-Tahita associations, was inaugurated in the Zabid district in Al-Hodeida province. The initiative is designed to provide white loans and distribute livestock to beneficiaries, aiming to uplift the economic status of people with disabilities in the region.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project is carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, and is supervised by the Agricultural and Fishery Production Promotion Fund. The funding comes from the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled, in partnership with the Bunyan Foundation, the Agricultural Cooperative Union, and the Agricultural Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in the province. The initiative plans to distribute 240 heads of cattle to 120 beneficiaries in the districts of Tahita and Jarahi, with a total funding amount of 145 million riyals.
Dr. Yahya Qatina, Director of the Economic Empowerment Unit, emphasized the project's role in supporting the most needy groups and promoting economic and social development through sustainable programs. He highlighted the necessity of collaboration among various parties to ensure the success of economic initiatives targeting marginalized communities.
Mohammed Al-Ahdal, head of the province's Economic Empowerment Management Unit, remarked that the project serves as a practical model for empowering people with disabilities, enhancing their role in the agricultural and rural sectors. This empowerment is expected to lead to self-sufficiency and an improved standard of living for these individuals.
The director of the Livestock Protection Unit, Mustafa Al-Ghuli, noted the project's significance in bolstering the agricultural sector in Al-Hodeida. He pointed out the enhanced contribution of people with disabilities in agricultural production, which plays a part in achieving food security and local development.
