Muscat: The local authority in Hamdan District, Sana'a Governorate, received today the solar-powered drinking water pumping unit project for the reinforcement well in the Al-Manqab area, from the implementing contractor.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project was implemented within the activities of the Programmatic Partnership Pilot Program (PPP) in Sana'a Governorate. It was funded by the European Union's humanitarian aid and the German Red Cross, and executed by the Yemen Red Crescent Society branch in the governorate. This initiative, in coordination with the Rural Water Office and the Northern Sector Association in the governorate, aims to provide safe and clean drinking water to citizens in the targeted areas. It is also intended to improve water services and alleviate the suffering of the population and the most vulnerable groups.
During the handover, Deputy Governor for Services Sector, Fares Al-Kahali, highlighted the importance of implementing service and humanitarian projects that cater to citizens' needs and enhance basic services. He praised the cooperation and coordination between the local authority and the Yemen Red Crescent Society in implementing developmental and service projects that serve citizens and alleviate their suffering.
He also pointed out the importance of enhancing and expanding such interventions to include remote rural areas far from district centers. This would support the local authority's efforts in developing and improving basic services, particularly in the water sector, which is critical to citizens' lives.
District Director, Fahd Atiya, stated that the project represents a significant addition to the water sector in the district. It will contribute to enhancing service stability and improving access to drinking water for citizens in the targeted areas. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Yemen Red Crescent Society and its partners in implementing humanitarian and service projects, affirming the local authority's readiness to provide necessary facilities for the success of programs and projects targeting citizens and meeting their basic needs.
Project supervisor, Engineer Rami Jamil, explained that the project aims to reduce operating costs of the water system and ensure provision of sufficient and safe quantities of drinking water to citizens. The project cost amounted to $67,000 and will benefit approximately 6,930 people.
