Sana'a: The capital Sana'a witnessed on Sunday a major mass march on Airport Street to commemorate the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him (Ashura), under the slogan "Heehat minna al-Dhuleh".
According to Yemen News Agency, the crowds emphasized that the Yemeni people's commemoration of this painful anniversary and the great tragedy in the history of the nation is based on their affiliation and identity of faith, and their firm loyalty to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and his pure family. They renewed the pledge of allegiance to Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, adherence to the values and principles for which he sacrificed, and to draw lessons from his positions, courage, and sacrifices in the face of the forces of tyranny, arrogance, America, and Israel.
The demonstrators emphasized that Yemen's position in supporting the brothers in Gaza and Palestine represents an extension of the approach of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and the values and principles for which he sacrificed for the sake of supporting the religion, the oppressed, the underdog, rejecting humiliation and submission to the enemies of the nation. The crowds reaffirmed that Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, is a great symbol of Islam and does not belong to any sect or denomination, and that the anniversary of Ashura represents a revolution in the face of tyrants and arrogant people.
The participants chanted slogans asserting their stance against oppression, invoking the spirit of Imam Hussein's resistance and expressing solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine. They also emphasized their readiness to face any escalation or Zionist aggression, renewing their support for the leader of the revolution, Sayyid Abdul Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, to take appropriate actions to deter aggression and support the Palestinian people.
At the rally, the Mufti of Yemen, Allama Shamsuddin Sharafuddin, highlighted that the commemoration of Ashura is not about sectarianism but about upholding a religious pillar established by God Almighty. He pointed out that Imam Hussein aimed to challenge the injustices and revive the principles established by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family).
The Mufti explained that Imam Hussein's actions were a response to the oppressive regime of the time, and his sacrifice was crucial in confronting the dangerous culture that discouraged resistance against unjust rulers. He emphasized that the struggle against tyranny is a timeless principle, relevant wherever injustice prevails.
Allama Sharafuddin further elaborated on the significance of Imam Hussein's legacy, drawing parallels to contemporary struggles against oppression. He emphasized that the true spirit of Islam calls for commanding good, forbidding evil, and resisting tyrants, a concept that remains vital in the face of modern-day injustices and challenges.
He concluded by affirming the Yemeni people's steadfastness in supporting their brothers in Gaza and their commitment to the principles of Imam Hussein, emphasizing that the struggle for justice and truth transcends time and place.
