Sana'a: A meeting held today at the Ministry of Local Administration and Rural Development, chaired by Deputy Minister Nasser Al-Mahdhar, discussed ongoing efforts related to the implementation of the date seedling and planting initiative. The meeting underscored the importance of mobilizing community support and the strategic role of district directors in the initiative's progress.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was attended by key figures such as the ministry's Undersecretary for the Rural Development Sector Ahmed Al-Haij, Secretary-General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union Mohammed Al-Qahoum, several district directors from the Capital Secretariat and Sana'a Governorate, and specialists from the Ministries of Local Administration and Development, Agriculture, and Public Mobilization. Discussions focused on the responsibilities of district directors in promoting and implementing the date seed planting initiative, as well as the involvement of executive offices, local authority bodies, and neighborhood leaders in ensuring its success.
The participants noted that the initiative is vital for supporting agricultural development and reducing the import bill. This effort is expected to have a positive impact on the national economy by achieving self-sufficiency in date production, thereby strengthening food security amidst various challenges.
The meeting emphasized the need for continued community mobilization and heightened awareness efforts by executive offices, local authorities, and neighborhood leaders. Participants stressed the importance of completing and submitting reports on the initiative's implementation to relevant authorities and conducting a thorough analysis of its current status.
The meeting also featured a presentation highlighting the importance of date production both as a food source and an economic commodity, detailing the steps involved in cultivating palm trees.
