Hodeida: A meeting in Hodeida Governorate, chaired by Governor Abdullah Atifi, discussed the state of the electricity sector and ways to address the technical and financial difficulties in order to enhance service stability and increase operational efficiency to meet the growing demand during the summer season.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting included the provincial security director, Major General Aziz Al-Jaradi, the director of the electricity corporation, Engineer Gharsan Abdulbari, and directors of service offices and institutions. It addressed the challenges facing the electricity corporation, its operational needs, mechanisms to enhance the efficiency of collecting outstanding debts, and reducing technical losses to ensure service continuity.
The meeting reviewed indicators of increasing electricity demand and steps to raise the generating capacity of power plants to meet peak summer loads, thereby alleviating the suffering of citizens and ensuring a continuous power supply to hospitals and vital service facilities.
The meeting also discussed practical measures to address outstanding debts owed by executive offices and service institutions, procedures for settling outstanding debts, and coordination with relevant authorities to address existing obligations, thus supporting service sustainability and improving performance in the coming period.
During the meeting, Governor Atifi directed the leadership of the electricity corporation and its technical teams to double generation capacity and meet the growing demand, considering a stable electricity supply an essential pillar for operating vital facilities essential to people's lives in the hot coastal climate. He emphasized the importance of integrating the efforts of official bodies and service offices in supporting the electricity sector, addressing financial arrears, and boosting revenues to enable the institution to meet its operational and technical obligations.
For his part, the Director of the Hodeida Electricity Corporation reviewed the most prominent difficulties and challenges facing the institution, its technical and operational needs, and the importance of supporting collection efforts to expand service coverage and improve performance efficiency.
