Sana'a: The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning has issued a forecast predicting variable thunderstorms, hot weather, and active to strong winds leading to rough seas over the next 24 hours.
According to Yemen News Agency, the center's weather bulletin indicated that rainfall of varying intensity, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional hail, is expected in several governorates, including Saada, Amran, Mahwit, Sana'a, Dhamar, Ibb, Dhale'a, and Taiz. Additionally, scattered rain is anticipated in parts of the governorates of Hajjah and Raymah, as well as the highlands of Lahj, Abyan, Shabwa, and the Socotra Archipelago.
The forecast also highlighted extreme temperatures, with the weather likely to be hot to extremely hot in the deserts, inland plateaus, and coastal plains, where maximum temperatures are expected to range between 38-43°C. Coastal areas are likely to experience temperatures ranging from 35-40°C.
The center has noted the possibility of active to strong winds on the Socotra Archipelago and the eastern coasts, with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 knots. Moderate winds are expected on the southern and western coasts and in the Gulf of Aden, with speeds ranging from 15 to 25 knots.
Rainfall over the past 24 hours, measured at meteorological stations, recorded 94.6 mm in Mahwit, 22.0 mm in Dhamar, 18.8 mm in Hajjah, and 2.0 mm in Ibb-As-Saddah. Scattered thunderstorms were reported in parts of the governorates of Saada, Amran, Sana'a, Raymah, Taiz, and Abyan, although these areas were outside the range of the stations.
The center has issued warnings for citizens in mountainous areas expecting rainfall to be cautious of thunderstorms and to avoid crossing or entering floodwaters during and after rainfall. It also advised against direct sun exposure during the afternoon due to the hot to extremely hot weather expected in deserts, inland plateaus, plains, and coastal areas.
Seagoers, fishermen, and ship captains in the Socotra Archipelago, the eastern Gulf of Aden, and the southern and eastern coasts have been warned of high waves and rough seas.
