National Human Rights Commission Condemns Airstrikes on Worker Families in Hamdan

Sana'a:The National Human Rights Commission has issued a condemnation following a series of airstrikes conducted by the Saudi air force targeting families of workers at a cement factory in the Hamdan District of Sana'a governorate.

According to Yemen News Agency, the commission reported that three consecutive airstrikes were launched against the residential quarters of the factory workers. This area is a civilian housing complex accommodating over ten families who rely on daily work at the cement factory. The initial toll from the attack includes the deaths of six women and a young girl, alongside injuries to two women and a child, all of whom were part of the workers' families.

The commission's statement highlighted the intentional nature of the attack, asserting that the residential area, housing ten families, was deliberately targeted. The commission emphasized that the act was a premeditated crime, evidenced by the repeated airstrikes on the living quarters.

Further, the commission declared that this incident is a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which protects civilian workers' housing, as well as Article 51, which prohibits targeting residential buildings. The commission held the Saudi regime accountable for the casualties and urged humanitarian organizations to denounce the attack against vulnerable worker families.
