Taiz:The National Commission for Human Rights has strongly condemned the recent airstrike by Saudi forces that targeted a passenger bus in the Taiz governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Commission issued a statement describing the airstrike on the bus, which was traveling on the public road between the Sharjab area and Al-Turbah city, as a severe criminal escalation. The airstrike involved two direct hits, leading to casualties and injuries.
The Commission labeled the attack as a war crime and an act of premeditated murder. It emphasized that such an attack on a civilian bus constitutes a direct and deliberate assault on civilians, a violation under Article 51 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted that the road targeted by the airstrike is a crucial connection for thousands of local residents. The attack is seen as part of a broader strategy to isolate regions within Taiz, disrupting civilian movement and access.
The Human Rights Commission noted that this incident followed closely after other attacks on residential areas in Yarim, telecommunications networks, and Hodeidah Airport, signaling a shift in Saudi tactics from infrastructure to civilian targets.
The Commission has held the Saudi regime legally accountable for the attack, urging the United Nations and the UN Envoy to issue a prompt and clear condemnation. It also called on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to document the incident as an extrajudicial killing.
